Recent Internet advertising revenue figures have revealed some interesting facts about online advertising and continuing trends that are bound to impact on many people all over the world in the years to come.

The big news is that online advertising revenue shot up 38 per cent in the first quarter of this year (2006) to reach a record $3.9 billion. The main driving force behind this very important statistic is the fact that marketers have continued and have in fact speeded up on the recent trend of moving more advertising revenue and dollars to the web. This is as a result of the medium proving its' effectiveness in yielding results that can actually be measured against advertising revenue that has been spent.

What is even more significant here is that first quarter revenues were higher than fourth quarter end of the year advertising revenue, which is usually a little higher than usual as businesses take advantage of the festive and heavy spending season towards the end of the year.

The figures produced by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers took into account advertising revenue from major companies that sell advertising space online like Google Inc and Yahoo Inc which have greatly benefited as more and more advertising dollars migrate online.

This is also very good news for small time webmasters and owners of low-traffic blogs because increasingly advertisers are looking to target more and more tightly on increasingly smaller niches on the net. This means that tightly focused niche blogs are bound to feel the impact of increased advertising revenue on the web through programs like the Google Adsense pay-per-click (PPC) program.

Increasingly, some of the smart advertisers moving online will be looking to make sponsorship deals directly with blogs and owners of small sites who are bound to see an increase in their advertising revenue over the next few months and for the rest of the year.
