In the wild-west days of the Internet, if a domain name were scheduled to expire, webmasters could wait for that day and then easily register the domain. This was an easy way for patient webmasters to acquire domains that were valuable. Now, things are different. One of the main reasons why it is very difficult to secure an expired domain name is because they are being automatically re-registered the minute that become available.
Why It Is No Longer A Good Idea To Wait For A Domain Name To Expire
There is this assumption that if you do a search and find that a domain name is up for grabs, then you can simply wait for it to expire to easily and effortlessly acquire it. That is very old news indeed and this used to happen in earlier years. The situation today has changed rather dramatically and radically and anybody who thinks that it is that easy, is doing a lot of wishful thinking and will definitely end up very disappointed.
One of the main reasons why it is extra difficult to secure an expired domain name these days is because they are being automatically re-registered the minute, nay the second that they are available. There are armies of people out there these days who set up all sorts of scripts and software for the sole purpose of instantly and automatically re-registering a domain name, the split second that it becomes available.
The whole idea is to of course use any website with any little traffic and which has lasted on the web for some time, as a link farm or splog. Splogs and link farms are those much-hated sites whose sole purpose is to earn as much money as they can possibly earn by tricking search engines into sending massive traffic to their targeted web sites.
The result is that these days it is much more difficult to acquire expired domain names. This has left many webmasters who are interested in domain names with the much more expensive option of buying off domain names from previous owners.
